Taking their cue from Adele and her song of the moment, Yahoo Messenger is telling people they’re still alive and kicking and with a massive update so maybe you’d like to use them again after all these years. This reintroduction to the messaging crazy netizens focuses on group messaging, sharing photos in a blink, being both ephemeral and permanent, and of course, those crazy things called GIFs. So if you still remember your YM ID or you can just create a new one, you might want to give this thing a whirl.

The overhaul of the app is based on two major insights when they were figuring out what people liked in a messaging app and that is people like to share photos and they like to talk in groups. And so backed by “Flicker’s expertise”, the photo sharing aspect of the group messages is a big come on (or come back) for users. You can share as many as 100 photos all at once to your group, and they will receive it almost instantaneously. You can download the photos in full quality, or you can just leave it there on the app and view it in high res as well.

A lot of messaging apps now have ephemeral features, and now YM is adding one too. Well, sort of. You can now unsend messages if you sent them by mistake or in hindsight, you want to take back what you said. It will disappear not just from your box but from everyone else in the conversation as well. But if you like something in the conversation, well, you can press like on any comment, photo or GIF. And speaking of GIFs, you can search from a huge library of GIFs from Tumblr, which is like the GIF capital of the digital world.

The overhauled app has other improved features like smart contacts, seriously fast connectivity, and even more to come. So are all of these things enough for you to actually consider saying hello to Yahoo Messenger again? It is now available worldwide and on various platforms, including of course, Android.
