Fitbit introduces new features to help you exercise better

Despite the arrival of a number of fitness apps and wearables in the market, Fitbit has continued to be one of the biggest names and is recognized as a pioneer in the digital fitness revolution. They do need to catch up to the new players in the market though, and this new update for all users and Fitbit Charge HR™ and Fitbit Surge™ users is an indication that they are indeed seriously doing so.

All Fitbit users will now be able to set weekly exercise goals, which depends on how many times you want to do your routines within the week. You can use your device directly to track your goals, manually log your workouts or use MobileRun in the Fitbit app to track your runs. It will show your progress within the week so it can keep you motivated and at the same time accountable to your fitness goals.

Meanwhile, for Fitbit Charge HR™ and Fitbit Surge™ users, they will be able to use the new feature SmartTrack which makes it easier to automatically track your workouts. It recognizes when you’ve done an activity with continuous movement, like walking, running, outdoor biking, sports like tennis and soccer among others, plus workout classes like Zumba. It also identifies what kind of activity you were doing and then record it directly to the Fitbit app. You can select which activities you want it to recognize as a workout and which to just ignore, as well set the minutes you need to do an activity to count towards your goal.

The PurePulse heart rate technology has also been updated, improving the tracking performance when you use the Exercise mode and multi-sport modes when you’re doing high-intensity activities, like in cycling, cardio, Zumba, or bootcamp class. SmartTrack and PurePulse is now available for Android, while exercise goals is coming soon to users on that platform.
