A few weeks ago, we told you about the licensed PepsiCo smartphone in the works. We never doubted that there is one because we’ve seen another version before already from OPPO. This time, we’re learning that the smartphone might be available sooner this coming December and is now ready on a crowdfunding website. Nope, it won’t be on Kickstarter or Indiegogo but on an Asian fundraiser site called JD Finance.
As with many similar rumors and leaks, the information we’ve got include specs, features, and even image renders. Fans of the Pepsi brand will definitely love the blue-red-white theme of their beloved beverage drink. We can say it’s a concept for now as the team behind the design still needs to raise about 3M Yuan which is about $470,000. That’s almost half a million dollars before the December 3, 2015 deadline.
While crowdfunding campaigns and goals are often met, this one has only raised about $89,000 or 570K Yuan so far. With two more weeks before the deadline, the amount is still a long way to go. We’re still hopeful that goal will be reached because the phone looks cool. Nothing much really special, it’s just a popular brand-themed unit.
Specs include a 5.5-inch screen with 1080p resolution, 2.5D glass protection, 1.7GHZ oct-core MediaTek MT6792 processor, 16GB built-in storage, 2GB RAM, 13 megapixel main camera, 5MP front-facing cam, fingerprint scanner, and a 3,000 mAh battery. Phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. The phone casing seems to be made of metal.
If you’re interested to help support the project, you can spend a minimum of 1 Yuan or as much as 1299 Yuan. The lowest amount of donation will not guarantee you a phone but 499 Yuan or $78 will (limited to 1,000 supporters). All pledges have been filled though for that amount. If you’re more generous, you can spend $203 or 1,299 Yuan as your support.
We’re curious to know if this Pepsi Phone will ever reach the 3 Million Yuan goal. Let’s just wait and see.
