There is no rest for companies who want to keep their ranks as the world’s top gadget manufacturers – new features have to be discovered, and technology needs to move unrelentingly forward. Just another day’s work at Samsung, it seems, as they take the wraps off a new camera sensor that will allow you to take better pictures in low-light conditions, and a bio-processor that will make Samsung’s health and activity tracking devices that much better.
There were already rumors of a new camera sensor that will be launched with the Samsung Galaxy S7, but the information about it was conflicting at best. Now we have word from the people over at Sam Mobile that Samsung has confirmed this in an investors’ meeting, BRITECELL is the new tech, and Samsung just applied for a new trademark for it. It is not the rumored 1/2-inch sensor with larger pixels that has been rumored, but a sensor with smaller form factor and smaller pixels with low-light sensitivity and works with current Samsung camera tech to give you better low-light images with less artifacts.
The second tech is a bio-processor – think of the Apple’s M9 processor – which will be an all-in-one solution for Samsung’s wearable activity trackers and gadgets to monitor heart rate, perform electrocardiogram as well as measure body fat, galvanic skin response and skin temperature. This processor will also be able to record the user’s heartbeat and use it as a unique signature for accessing secure systems like passwords and even wireless payment systems.
No information yet on when the BRITECELL camera will come out, but it will be logical to expect it on the new Samsung Galaxy S7 when it comes out. The bio-processor should be integrated into Samsung’s wearables by 2016.
