Google Search has been so embedded into our modern lives that one barely notices it when they do something new (aside from those wonderfully thought out cartoons on the Google logo). But if you really think about it, Google Search from 5 or 6 years ago has evolved so much to what it is today, and most of that is not only because of the breadth of content Google makes available, but the depth of it – now being able to deep search to YouTube videos, and now, even apps.
You probably don’t know this, but Google has been indexing the content on apps starting in 2013, and they claim to have over 100 billion deep links into apps available today. We mostly see it today in app suggestions that Google Search gives us as contextual to our search terms, but that is going to change really fast with this new element of “app streaming” from Google Search.
Basically, this will allow you to preview and test drive apps right from Google Search, especially the ones you don’t have installed, just to know what sort of content and information it can give you. For example, you went on an emergency trip and need space to spend the night on a tight budget in Chicago, Google will not only suggest Airbnb to you, it will also allow you to “stream” the app, use it and see what results you come up with.
That, if you think about it, is unbelievably cool. This will be executed with a “Stream” button right next to your search result for an app, and you can view it, use it, directly from your mobile phone. This gives app developers more exposure, and if you like what you see, you can install the app from then and there. Wow.
