The Google Nexus 6P durability test video posted on YouTube a few days ago drew mixed reactions from the public. By saying “The Nexus 6P is a joke…”, he was bound to be judged especially by hard core Nexus fans. The result of the test wasn’t very favorable especially to Huawei who manufactured the phone because hardware was the main target of judgment.
Unlike most smartphones that survived standard durability tests, the Nexus 6P failed. The first was a scratch test with a level 7 hardness. The result was only a physical crack. Phone was still functional though. The burn test using a cigarette lighter resulted to some white showing on the AMOLED display screen when flamed directly. Minus two points already. And then the smartphone was bent easily by tester JerryRigEverything. He’s not a stranger to such stress test so he knows what he is doing.
People commented that the bending was already a result of the flame and the initial crack on the screen. That may be true but he only exerted a little effort. His conclusion? Google Nexus 6P is a joke. A lot of people are saying his test is not reliable because it’s not scientific. And so what he did was do another durability test. He got a new Nexus 6P for round two just to prove that one of Google’s latest flagship phone is really a joke.
The second video presented why the Nexus 6P would easily bend. According to JerryRigEverything, the smartphone has three (3) structural flaws that we are detailing below as the YouTuber described them:
(1) The aluminum mid-frame was not screwed in to the back housing of the phone. The aluminum mid-frame should have been enough to provide rigidity to the device but the frames were free floating separate entities. The only thing holding the mid frame to the rear panel was a super thin piece of glass. Sure, screen was Gorilla Glass 4 but it wasn’t designed to hold the aluminum chunks together.
(2) Thinness of the side walls. No problem with super thin side walls but since the frames are not attached properly, these side walls become worthless.
(3) On the right side where the power button is located, a small but of aluminum holds the phone together. It’s right where the battery and motherboard meets in the middle inside. This particular area, the tester noted, works as the perfect kinking (twisting or curving point) in the middle.
With all these said, how durable is the Nexus 6P again? Not very according to JerryRigEverything. Same results, same conclusion.
It’s still a good phone. “Not really terrible phone. Just treat it nicer that you normally would,” the tester said.
Very unfortunately, the Google Nexus 6P by Huawei is one of the phone that bend in half. Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything (yup, that’s his real name) was already being sarcastic at the end of the video. It’s obvious that he wasn’t too happy that Google came up with such a joke of a flagship smartphone and that people didn’t believe him at first.

This is bending. What the Nexus 6P does is break.
LOL
If I get my Nexus 6P and it starts bending in my pocket, I will come back and eat my words. But who WOULDN’T get a case for this thing? That’s going to supply plenty of additional protection, and if I tried to bend any of my phones I expect they’d start to crack…so…yeah, don’t bend your phone. And if you’re that clumsy and worried about it, get the protection plan.
I would get a case AND a protection plan. But I see lots of people put their phones in their back pocket without a case. If they don’t have phone insurance, they may be in for a rude awakening. It’s not going to break in half like the video, but it probably will break apart in places.
Of course, the people I see with phones in their back pockets have an iPhone or Samsung phone, and aren’t likely to buy any type of Nexus, so it may not be a problem.

Nexus 6p sucks large donkey balls always so does all Nexus users too.
I agree that you need to be careful and it might be more prone to bending/breaking than most phones. BUT I have also done this with a Samsung Galaxy note 3 & note 4. Bigger phones have more leverage to break and it didn’t take much on either of those phones to come up with the same result.
