When Microsoft bought popular calendar app Sunrise, fans of the latter became a bit apprehensive as to the changes that will be brought about by the former. The past months saw that they were still updating the calendar app, but now we are seeing an integration with Outlook, Microsoft’s well-reviewed email and productivity app. The latest update to Outlook sees Sunrise taking a more prominent role, and eventually it will be absorbed into Outlook completely.

But the good news is that Sunrise is improving Outlook even more, as the latter is incorporating the great features of the calendar app. In fact, Outlook has gotten a makeover in the latest update which will be rolling out starting next week. For starters, they are “deeply leveraging” Material Design into the UI so that it becomes more cohesive with the whole Android experience, including the header, message list, and the compose options. Your Unified Inbox now looks more organized and easy to understand, from seeing who emailed you through their icons, to easily seeing which are the read and unread emails.

Outlook is more than just email, in case you haven’t used it yet. The great thing is that your contacts and calendar can also be organized here. And since they are integrating Sunrise here, that means all the features you loved about it will now be seen on Outlook. The new UI shows your events at a glance, and also more details if you want to see it, including attendees and venue, etc.

Microsoft promises that “richer calendar experiences” from Sunrise will be available in Outlook, until eventually, they will do away with the former. But for now, while it’s still not fully integrated, Sunrise will remain alive, with no specific date yet as to when it will be shut down completely. The Outlook update will start rolling out by the first week of November.
