SlashGear got a good close-up look at Acer’s main competitor in the 10-inch tablet category … the Iconia Tablet A500.  Designed to go head to head with both the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Iconia is powered by NVidia’s Tegra 2 processor for 1080p HD video playback that seems to be the tablet’s main selling point.

Specs include the standard bevy of features including WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, along with USB and HDMI connectors and dual cameras including a 5 megapixel picture taker on the back, and a basic webcam on the front for video chat in HD.  The Iconia Tab has a gorgeous 13.3mm brushed aluminum case as well.

Plans are to run Android 3 (Honeycomb), which has been on the radar of all Android tablet makers since CES, and SlashGear posits that if Acer can get the price lower that most, it could trigger a drop from the above $1,000 price point that most are obsessed with.  The Iconia Tab will go on sale in April, 2011.
