Being able to speak to our smartwatches and having them obey our voice commands is one of the joys of having wearables. And if you are a developer of apps for the newer Pebble smartwatches, then now is the chance for you to spread that joy. Pebble is opening up their Dictation API, powered by Nuance, that will allow developers to create voice-powered apps for Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round.
Even though Pebble Time users can already send quick voice replies through their smartwatches even without using an app, getting more developers to give voice-recognition abilities to their apps and programs is truly useful for existing users, and also a good marketing tool to get more people (both developers and customers) to get on board the Pebble train. Both the Pebble Time firmware and the Pebble Time App are receiving updates to support this new development as well.
Aside from the integration of voice features, the Pebble Time Firmware update to version 3.6 also includes improvements to the stability, timeline and notification features. To be able to update your smartwatch, go to Menu » Support » Update Your Pebble within the Pebble Time app on your connected smartphone.
Meanwhile, for the Pebble Time App update to version 3.6.0, you’ll get other new features like support for Pebble Time Round and the aforementioned support for the Pebble Dictation API. You also get even more controls for how apps send alerts to your smartwatch and when you’ll receive them, like Always Mute, Mute on Weekdays, or Mute on Weekends. You can download the update from the Google Play Store.
