Apps and programs that take a look back at what happened to you in the past can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s really nice to go on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. However, if the good memories are mixed with the bad and painful ones, sometimes you don’t want to even remember what happened two, five, ten years ago. Apps like Timehop and features like Facebook’s On This Day are guilty of this bittersweet remembrance. But at least, you can now filter the latter to avoid those bad memories.
Facebook now has a few filtering options so that those things that you don’t want to remember, like the death of a loved one, past relationship pictures, that day when you had a friendship over moment, will not show up anymore on your On This Day timeline. You can choose to filter out specific people or dates or even both, if you ca remember exactly when this happened or who this happened with.
These unwanted memories will include posts, photos, statuses where you were tagged in, life events, the dates when you became friends with someone (and then later on unfriended). Now you don’t have to avoid On This Day like the plague, and you can even start looking forward to checking your nostalgic feed now since they will be filled with memories that you actually want to remember.
These new filtering options are slowly rolling out to Facebook users everywhere. For now, it’s only appearing on the desktop and web versions, but we’re pretty sure it will come to the mobile Android app eventually.
