Back in the days when we used to write actual, physical letters to our loved ones, if you don’t want anyone to accidentally or deliberately read something before it reaches its intended, you would seal the letter with either glue, stickers, stamps, or maybe even all of the above. But now, when most of our communication is through messaging apps, what can you do? Well, apparently, for LINE, it still “sealing” the messages.

The popular messaging app is bringing Letter Sealing to all those using the apps, both mobile and desktop, and have upgraded to the latest version. It adds another security measure so that there will be no unauthorized access, even during the message delivery process. Basically it is an encryption system known as End-To-End encryption (E2EE), which means that your messages are given an extra layer of protection. It scrambles the message you sent with a key so that only the receiving device will be able to see that key instead of a centralized server. LINE says that it is “technically impossible” for any of the messages to be disclosed to a third line party or even their own servers.

For now, Letter Sealing is only applied to individual chats and location sharing, but eventually, they are looking to use it on different features of the messaging app. This is the latest in a series of additional security features and programs that LINE has been bringing to consumers in the light of several security breaches with various tech brands.

To be able to enjoy Letter Sealing, your LINE app must be updated to the 5.3.0 version or the latest and you need to manually turn it on in the settings. Full encryption is applied when both sender and receiver have this enabled.
