Hulu VR app Samsung Gear VR

Hulu is joining the bandwagon of offering virtual reality experience. While it’s still early, it’s best that companies and brands join in the fun before the market is saturated and the technology becomes a standard. It may be long before that happens but Hulu in VR seems like more than a novel idea.

In time for the arrival of the $99 Samsung Gear VR, the Hulu VR app will be released. Tim Conolly, head of distribution at Hulu, said that the company is ready to go and app will be out in the United States in the Fall season. The digital video company aims to bring more virtual reality content. It has started to produce a short VR film by Freddie Wong, a popular YouTube creator, to release “The Big One”. Wong also has an upcoming original series on Hulu.

Tim Conolly further expressed:

“We think this is a smart bet that helps position us as an innovator and helps us learn earlier on what could be a substantive storytelling environment.”

Hulu is planning a project that offers an “immersive environment” that brings the audience a new experience as if watching on the set of a show. One example is “sitting” in Jerry’s apartment while watching “Seinfeld”. Owned and managed by Disney, Comcast, and 21st Century Fox, Hulu hopes to bring more original series with virtual reality content.

Most of Hulu’s viewers watch on Internet TVs, consoles, or Roku devices. Adding an affordable Samsung Gear VR should be enticing but we’re not sure how many percent of Hulu subscribers will join the wave. Let’s see if Hulu gets farther in the game before anyone else does.
