While there hasn’t been any confirmation yet that OnePlus will be announcing a new smartphone any time now, rumors have been flying around that a OnePlus X is imminent. An invitation to a major event happening on October 12 has been sent out, and logically, people are assuming it’s an announcement of a new toy. Then a post on OnePlus CEO Liu Zuohu’s Weibo page may have just confirmed this as it looks like X really does mark the spot.
With the words “Dissatisfied run a (sic) X” then a grimacing face emoji, he posted what looks like a navigation map but with an X “hidden” in plain sight and color. Some say that is as good a confirmation that they are indeed launching the OnePlus X. While it is not obvious that it is a smartphone (in fact, it could be anything, from a tablet, to a laptop, to a game console), the persistent rumors are that it is a 5-inch device that will have either a Snapdragon 801 chipset or the new Helio X10 MT6795.
The event invites were sent out this week and it’s for “The Next Big Step”. It will be hosted by OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau and the GM of OnePlus India, Vikas Agarwall. If you’re wondering why the latter, it’s because the October 12 event will actually be in India, which may very well be another clue to this OnePlus X mystery.
Since this is just a few days away, expect even more rumors and speculation as to whether we will see another OnePlus smartphone or this is a totally different one. All we know is that the X will probably figure out somewhere in there.
