Nothing much to say here but it is possible to enable the NFC module found inside your Sony Smartwatch 3. Nope, Sony didn’t make an official announcement but a certain XDA genius happened to initialize the feature. This means everything an NFC capable device can do, the Sony smartwatch can now do. That is, if you can follow what ebones has instructed.
Ebones warned that the new feature uses “a lot of battery in the process”. More warnings were given even before installation rules were presented. The developer said that this particular package is only meant for the Smartwatch 3 with build LCA43. It may do some changes to install on a different build so don’t attempt if you’re not sure. Software updates will still be released by Sony so future OTAs may corrupt the system.
The developer suggested you restore phone to a stock ROM before doing the install and make backups of boot partitions and the system first–just to be sure. Ebones also noted that it may disable initial tag and that it uses an insecure kernel. With all these information, we’re telling you what we always say: INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK.
This support package features the following: a watchface to monitor NFC module state, configuration app that can turn NFC module on and off, and full NFC supporr including writing, tag reading, HCE, and P2P or Android Beam.
Once NFC is enabled, you can now monitor NFC module state by checking the NFC Status watchface. Using the NFC Configuration app, you can also control the NFC module. You may also install tag editing app via adb to view a particular tag.
