If you’re a fan of Google Now and how it has made your mobile and digital life a little bit easier, then you’ll probably be even happier with a new feature on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Now you can get all the information (well, maybe almost all) that you need without leaving the current app that you’re on or without opening up a browser just to Google what you need. Now on Tap will be your new digital best friend.
When a friend sends you a message, inviting you to watch a movie you know nothing about, you don’t need to go to the IMDB app or to Google just to find out if this is a movie worth watching. Tap and hold down the home button of your smartphone and Google Now will be showing you all the relevant information and even which app you have installed that will give you the best info. Once you’ve read up on it, just press the back button and it will bring you back to the message from your friend, and now you can answer yes, or no, or “let’s watch another movie”.
When you’re reading about a news item, do the tap and hold thing again, and you’ll see the important headlines and just tap on which one you want to read up on more. If you’re listening on your music app and you hear a new song from a new artist, you tap and hold and you’ll find out more about the song or the singer. The possibilities of how you can use the new feature is endless and this may be one of the best things to come out of Marshmallow.
Now on Tap will be available once your device has been upgraded to the newest Android update. So that means Nexus devices will receive it first. For now, it will only be available in English but Google promised that they will be adding more languages over the next few months.
