If you think that the Nexus 5X having a USB Type-C cable is already an advantage, think again. The Nexus 5X came with USB-C but sadly, it doesn’t come with any Standard-A plugs. Some computers still that don’t have a USB Type-C port so you need to get a USB Type-C USB Standard-A plug cable which you have to buy separately.
You can buy such cable directly from Google for only $13 but some people find it annoying, saying that Google is just like Apple now–coming up with new devices that need special proprietary plugs. This shouldn’t be a problem for some because the latest computers today already work with USB Type-C ports like the HP Pavilion x2, 2015 Macbook, Chrome Pixel, and some Dell Computers. But how about units that don’t have them? Sorry, but you really need to spend a few dollars.
Blame Apple for making USB-C a standard in their Macbook models released this 2015. Because of Apple, accessory-makers followed suit by coming up with USB-C adapters and cables. This is the first time that Google used USB-C but looks like not a lot of people are happy, at least not yet.
But you know, it’s really easy to solve this problem: buy a cable or get a new laptop. I’m sure $13 is just a small amount. If you can buy a Nexus 5X, then definitely you can spend a few dollars more. The LG Nexus isn’t exactly cheap at $379 even if it’s a mid-range phone but man, what’s $13 to you these days?

Eh? USB-C is coming. It’s been wanted by many for a long time. This pointless griping about new cables would have come no matter what. It’s just that Google happens to be one of the first to push the standard, so they’re getting the grief. They’re not the new Apple; they’re simply the early adopters for a new format that will (hopefully) become commonplace on all new devices soon.
If they were becoming Apple, they would have made it a Google-only interface and charge you $40 for it like Apple did with Lightning. Settle down, people.

Point is, people don’t really understand that new technology requires adapting at times. Taking on a new tech and complaining that it’s not fully compatible with your old tech is a bit silly. You have to adapt eventually, new cables or old… lol.

USB type c is an open standard, not proprietary like the lightning port. Therefore spending the $13 is an investment for a very long time since USB type a has been around for an eternity. Stop b!thing!

Apple makes proprietary hardware that then gets changed. USB Type C is not only not proprietary, but whats called a new STANDARD for a reason. That’s like saying USB Type A was proprietary when the first computers with it came around.
