Samsung Pay has been successful in its native South Korea. We just reported that it was used on 1.5 million total transactions within one month. We have yet to know its fate in the United States because it’s still in beta testing in the country. That and the fact that the mobile payment has a number of rivals in the form of Android Pay and Apple Pay.
Actually, Samsung Pay will only directly be challenged by Android Pay in getting the shares within the Android market. Apple Pay is exclusive to iOS-powered devices while both Android Pay and Samsung Pay can work on most Android phones. The latter can only exclusively work on the latest high-end Samsung phones so that makes Android Pay more accessible by more people.
Samsung just updated the mobile payment app with several enhancements for a better user experience. The tech company has yet to roll out the service to owners of Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note 5. The app now features the ‘Simple Pay’ menu. It shows different ways on how one can launch the app to start the mobile payment process. Special options include the home screen and lock screen fingerprint sensor swipe gesture being used to turn on or off Samsung Pay. Using the fingerprint scanner, you can also enable the app to open even when screen is turned off or in idle mode.
You’ll also notice the improved ‘About’ screen page within the app. You can easily see the update button for future software updates. Virtual card number is also now shown beside each card for easier identification. We’ll know more about the Samsung Pay when it lands in the US this coming September 28.
