With not much fanfare, Android apparently is celebrating its 7th birthday, as per the official Google Plus page. And to celebrate, instead of giving out cake or something more celebratory, they shared wallpapers full of…marshmallows. Well, that isn’t really a surprise given that their next major update is of the soft and cushy and sweet kind. But given that it is the 7th birthday after all, weren’t you expecting a Google Doodle at least?

But okay, let’s give them their low-key marshmallow-y celebration. Maybe they were also confused as to when Android’s actual birthday is. According to its history, it was actually founded in October 2003 and then was bought by Google in July 2005. Android was first formally introduced as “the first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices” in November 2007. November 12 of the same year was when people got a first look at the Android SDK.

But we guess Google decided to actually celebrate Android’s birthday on September 23, because back in 2008, that was when Android 1.0 SDK was unleashed into the wild, we mean world. And since then, we’ve had all kinds of sweet things like the Froyo, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, KitKat, and the current one, the Lollipop.

The newest baby though is the Marshmallow, hence the special wallpapers for Android’s birthday. On September 29, Google’s announced special event, it is expected that a preview of the Android Marshmallow will be shown. Let’s wait and see. But for now, Happy Birthday Android!
