It used to be that US consumers only had two options if they were looking at the ASUS ZenFone 2. The low end 2GB RAM/16GB storage version, and the high performance 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage version. Now ASUS is giving you a middle ground between the two of these, with a new ZenFone 2 option that gives you 4GB RAM with 16GB storage.
This new option is priced at USD$229, which is probably the cheapest price you can get for a smartphone with 4GB RAM. We’ve shown you what 4GB RAM in an ASUS ZenFone 2 can do (it’s really good for multi-tasking), so this might be a cool option for those who don’t want to splash the cash for a USD$299 ZenFone 2 with 64GB internal storage.
As for specs, the new variant will have an Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz, compared to the faster 2.3Ghz Intel Atom Z3850 chip on the more expensive model. Apart from the processor, all the other specs remain virtually the same – a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) IPS LCD display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, 4G LTE connectivity, dual SIM slots, and a 13MP/5MP camera combo.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 variants all have Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box. This new variant is already available in online retail stores like Amazon, should you want to jump on the ZenFone 2 wagon.
