Once upon a time, there was a hunter, whose favorite sport was deer. One day, when he was about to shoot down another one, he was killed by wolves. But instead of going to heaven or hell, he is turned into a deer himself to atone for his sins. Now, he has to survive life as the hunted and hope that, if he does not survive, his next life would be better. That is the backstory behind Deer God, now out on Android devices.
But that is just the opening story, and the rest of the game, you are one of the most beautiful creatures on earth, but also one of the most endangered. So now, in a world of “gorgeous 3d pixel art”, you need to survive all the attempts to hunt you down. You will get various quests, meet other animals along the way, even reincarnate into other animals at some points, and generally go on an adventure as a deer.
You get to use the power of statues, level up your antlers, get bonus points when you solve difficult puzzles and discover secrets. Aside from the beautiful graphics and the dark but interesting storyline, you also get to enjoy the original soundtrack created for the game.
While there have been some complaints about the game being buggy, a minor update has said they have fixed those issues. There is also now initial support for game controllers. You will need to spend a bit for this game as it is $6.99 on the Google Play Store. But that is a one-time purchase and you don’t need to buy any in-app. If you are intrigued by the game, then that price should be a risk you’re willing to take.
