Uh huh. We knew that someone would do a drop and stress test soon. The first one we’ve seen is by David Rahimi of PhoneBuff. It’s not just like any drop test where a guy drops the test from different heights (or from a drone!) but using a professional drop test machine for more accuracy and consistency. Such tests are done to know how tough or durable a phone is and since the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is our favorite subject these days, we’re interested to know how this phablet will fare.
Why do these drop tests again when they can be too painful too much? I know you’re thinking such a waste of money and time but David explained it well. He said that even though we all know that every phone is eventually going to break or crack,we want to see how long it would take to get to that point. Knowing how well one phone does compared to another model can be really helpful in making shopping decisions. Stress tests help us to know which one is more durable.
First drop on its back was from one meter high onto a tile. The result? Back cover cracked with the cracks spider-webbing throughout the panel.
Second drop test was from one side, the bottom edge. This made the Galaxy Note 5 do some somersaulting on the floor but with very litte damage on the phone. No obvious scratch and ejecting the S-pen is still possible.
Third drop: face first from one meter. Fortunately but really not surprising, the phone still works even if glass is cracked. The spider web cracks are mainly on the left side of the screen but no problem with the phone functioning.
Fourth drop is onto concrete again, side first. The phablet somersaulted again and didn’t get any additional damage. The last drop, considered the toughest drop and perhaps the most heartbreaking, is the face flat drop onto concrete. After this one, the glass is obviously more shattered with very visible damage. You can see a vertical streak now on the display.

PhoneBuff concluded that the Galaxy Note 5 is better than the Galaxy S6 when it comes to surviving the drop tests but still not as good as the iPhone 6 and the HTC One M9. There’s that usual recommendation to get a case too because really, any smartphone today needs one.

So we lose battery and sd card over design (v note 4) and it needs to live in a pirelli?!
Not concerned I’ll never buy one!
