If you think golf is one of the most boring sports ever, then you might be right (sorry, golf fanatics). But then again, the stakes may not be that high in real life to make it more exciting. If you’re fighting for your life against giant octopi and angry whales, then maybe it will become a bit more alive and fun, even if it’s just on your smartphone or tablet. That’s what the new Android game, Battle Golf, will try to do; change your mind about golf by making it more exciting in virtual life.
Even if you haven’t played golf in a long while (or ever), the gameplay is pretty easy to pickup. You swing a club and hit the ball and try to put it in the hole. Except that this time, the hole is that of a whale or an octopus, and you need to hit it into their hole a few times so they will not bother you or kill you. Don’t ask us why there is a hole in the octopus’ head though.
The game uses a bit of physics, a little timing and proper trajectory, and a tiny bit of luck shooting the ball into the giant animal in front of you that’s ready to eventually eat you. If you also have the urge to hit golf balls at another person, you can do so virtually though the single-device multiplayer option, where you try to give a golf-ball size lump or even a concussion to your opponent. Head shots are definitely encouraged in this game.
You can download Battle Golf from the Google Play Store for free. There doesn’t seem to be any in-app purchase for now, and hopefully forever.
