When you’re writing on your smartphone or tablet, especially if it’s a long article or post, you don’t necessarily need an app that has all the bells and whistles, as sometimes it proves more distracting rather than helpful. Minimalist note apps have sprung up for those that need to just concentrate on writing. A new one, still in BETA mode, is called Monospace and from the name itself, you can expect something simple, monochromatic, and hopefully, will help you write better and faster.

Monospace doesn’t have the usual standard editing and formatting features that you can find in most writing apps (well the standard ones anyway). Instead, it gives you a popup that has the most basic of formatting like Bold, Italics, H1, H2, Bullet and Quote. There are no spell checking or templates to be found here. But it does have Dropbox syncing so you can access your notes across platforms and devices.

Another thing that makes this app different is that instead of using folders to organize your notes, you will instead use hashtags. Just add the hashtag you want to use at the end of the article and the app will sort out the relevant notes for you and show them on your home screen when you search for it.

As stated earlier, the app is still in beta mode, so expect a lot of room for improvement. But if you try it now, at least you will be part of the community that can help make it better. You can download Monospace from the Google Play Store for free.
