When you’re enjoying an app but the network infrastructure where you are is not that advanced yet, it affects the app’s performance, no matter how great it is. Popular messaging app LINE understands this very well, with its rich user multi media experience but connectivity heavy app. So now they’re releasing a LINE Lite version, initially available in 11 countries where the Internet isn’t that great, and where lower-end devices are all the rage.

LINE Lite is basically a lightweight version of the app. It has the core functions of LINE, because otherwise, what’s the point of having it if you can’t use the messaging aspects of it right? So you can send text, stickers, and image-based messages as well. But what you can’t do is make audio and video calls, and the other new network heavy features that they have introduced lately. But the developers plan to introduce other LINE Lite features in the future.

You can use your existing LINE account here or create a new one in case you don’t have a LINE account yet. It is less than 1MB in size and installed in 1/20 the time that you install the full version, given that you have the same network conditions.

The 11 countries included in phase 1 are: Algeria, Cambodia, Colombia, Egypt, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Vietnam. They plan to add more regions in the future, depending on the demands and users of other countries. You can download LINE Lite for free from the Google Play Store if you’re in any of those 11 countries.
