Just when we thought we’ve had enough variants of the ASUS ZenFone 2 out there, the Taiwan-based outfit comes out with one more. ASUS is partnering up with AT&T to bring you the ASUS ZenFone 2E, a budget phone to go with your prepaid account, but a very capable budget phone at that. It seems like everybody is moving up in the world, and even the budget phones now have HD displays and 4G connectivity.
We’re pretty sure the ASUS ZenFone 2E is one of the variants of the ZenFone 2 repurposed for this partnership with AT&T. It’s a budget phone for your prepaid line, but it sports a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS LCD display powered by a dual-core Clovertrail+ Intel Atom processor to give you decent performance together with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD).
You also get a pretty good 8MP/2MP camera combo together with what is probably a 2,500mAh battery (non-removable, if we go by other ZenFone 2 variants). The great thing is that you get 4G LTE connectivity with this budget phone. All this will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and you can swap back covers – which are marked with the AT&T logo, by the way – from black to white depending on your outfit or whim for the day.
The phone is priced comfortably at USD$119.99, so this will be affordable for those who are looking for a budget LTE phone that can basically do what you want it to do but not break your bank account. The ASUS ZenFone 2E will be available at AT&T stores starting July 24, while Best Buy will start selling them by August 2.
