If you own a Sony Xperia Z2 or Z3 series phone or tablet, we’ve got some good news coming your way. Sony just announced that they are rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update that you guys have been expecting for a while now. Along with the new firmware, of course, are new goodies and features for everybody.
The firmware build is marked as 23.4.A.0.546 and it has already been green-lighted by the PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board), meaning that Sony is ready to push it out to its users via OTA and manual download. The new Android 5.1.1 update is certified for these devices: the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Dual (D6633), Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
The Android 5.1.1 update brings a lot of performance enhancements and some fixes for bugs. Users will notice some new features, like increased customization options, and enhancements in Sony’s camera app. The Xperia line already boasts of great camera performance, and it should come out better after the update. There should also be a new set of icons for the Settings menu.
Sony said that this update should roll out “late July”, so they are basically on schedule. Users should wait for the OTA notification to pop up on their devices, or they can manually download them from the Sony Xperia website soon.
