Have you ever fancied yourself the romantic lead in a manga love story but can’t be bothered to get up from your couch? Well, what if we told you that you can become the former if you would do the latter? That is the genius behind this unique app, which of course could only come from Japan, that combines storytelling, a fitness regimen, and gamification all in just one app. If you’re a manga fan, then Burn Your Fat With Me will be your new best friend.

If motivation is what you need to get your fitness regimen started, then motivation is what you’ll get. Or rather, it’s “moevation”, a play on the word “moe” which is the Japanese word for that “heart-melting” feeling that you get when you see your favorite manga or anime character. There are two versions of the game, one for girls where your motivator/crush is Kei Katsuragi (and three other options), and another one for boys, where Mayu Uehara (also, with three other options), will serve as your trainer and motivator, or rather, moevator, in one.

The game has two modes that you can follow. The Story Mode has 15 episodes that will follow your love story as you get pushed into training. You’ll only be able to unlock the next episode if you finish the “trial”, like performing 50 sit-ups in three minutes. The fitness challenges start out easy but of course as the story progresses, your regimen has to be upped too so it gets more difficult. That is also why you have a Training Mode where you have to do repetitions of your exercises as your moevator counts for you and cheers you on. You will also earn points here that you can eventually use to unlock bonus content or new episodes as well.

While some of you may think having a fictional character serve as motivation to get fit totally weird, hey, whatever floats some people’s boats, so no judgement here. Although, if you’re easily offended by fat jokes, sexist images, and some almost soft-core storylines, not to mention bad English translations, you might want to stay away from this one. You can download Burn Your Fat With Me (that title is creepy though), the for girls version, and the for boys version, from the Google Play Store for free, with in-app purchases available.
