Skype continues to battle it out with other messaging apps in the market. Even though it was one of the earliest to get into free online messaging, other players like Viber, Snapchat, LINE, etc, have made quicker strides in terms of popularity and bringing new features. But that doesn’t mean Skype is out of the game yet. The latest update brings users a few minor tweaks, including an easier way to log in again, and bringing preview to web links in messages.

The update also brings better battery management and notification improvements, so they say you can actually leave it running in the background without having to sign out. But if you prefer to totally close it and sign out, you will now have an easier way of logging back on. The app now remembers your log-in details so you just need to click the arrow and you’re back in. But if you still feel like you should re-enter your password for security reasons, you can choose that option under the Privacy section in the settings.

When someone sends you a link in one of your chats, you want to make sure that it’s not spam or virus-laden or something that will frighten you, before you actually click the link. Well, now, you finally get a rich visual preview of what that link is all about so you know whether to click or just to ignore it altogether.

The update has already rolled out to all Skype users, so you can go ahead and update your app through the Google Play Store.
