It’s been a while since we’ve last heard from Ramos. A relatively unfamiliar brand, the Chinese manufacturer has specialized in making budget Android tablets with a bit of distinction. Back in 2014, it put out not one, not even two, but four tablets. Not that they were entirely spectacular, but Intel-powered Android tablets back then were still a rare sight. Now Ramos is back and it’s back with a vengeance. Sort of. The Ramos MOS1 now has the distinction of being the manufacturer’s first, but not last, smartphone.
Spec-wise, the Ramos MOS1 is neither here nor there. It’s a relatively decent mid-range phablet, sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD screen and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 CPU. RAM is actually at an acceptable 2 GB and storage is a decent 32 GB. The cameras are marked as 13 and 5 megapixels, back and front, respectively, though of course that says little about their quality. Battery is a large 3,050 mAh pack.
The MOS1 might hardly be unique, especially in China where the likes of Xiaomi have definitely raised the bar higher, but it’s still good to see that some of the now expected features, even design language, have trickled to this market already. The 6.6 mm profile might not be the slimmest, but it’s definitely there among the notably thin ones. The aluminum body also adds a touch flair to the otherwise budget mid-range smartphone.
And by budget, we mean 1,999 RMB, roughly $322. Given the specs, the price could be a bit justified. Ramos is said to also have a MOS1 Max in the works, sporting a larger 6-inch screen and an even larger 6,000 mAh battery.
