Qualcomm Snapdragon

Can mobile photography still be enhanced? Of course, this kind of photography will only improve year after year as long as camera technology is advancing. Maybe someday, there won’t be a need for big and bulky video cams and DSLRs because a standard smartphone can capture special moments with much power. In the market today, there are a lot of smartphones with great cameras already. The list is getting longer and even faster than we can get our hands on a particular model.

Filters and effects plus the thousands of photo editing apps available on the app market can be very helpful but what’s more important is the original image being captured by a good camera. Each smartphone has components that make it a “smart” device. Most parts are replaceable and there are so many options for specs and models. When it comes to camera, it’s not enough that the best camera module is added. What a phone needs is a really powerful processor preferably something from Qualcomm.

Qualcomm may have recently experienced a hit after Samsung finally ditched it for its own Exynos processor but the American semiconductor company is determined to capture a bigger percentage of the mobile market. It has started showing off how its latest Snapdragon processor is very fast enough to capture any moment just by using a camera phone.

According to Qualcomm, some Qualcomm Snapdragon processors can offer “lightning fast camera auto focusing system”. This means we can expect sharp images all the time. This super-fast hybrid autofocus is expected to lessen those calculations usually done by your native camera app before taking a photo. This contrast focus, a traditional auto focus system, does those calculations to achieve the correct focus. But with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, it can work with advanced auto focus systems for really clearer, sharper, and more vivid images even under low light conditions as explained by Qualcomm.

Qualcomm is confident that its Snapdragon processors work well with advanced auto focus systems. Only a few smartphones boast of such although the number is slowly increasing. One system being used today is Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) which is a standard in DSLRs. This technology is being used in some smartphones now and a Snapdragon processor’s job is to read pixels and calculate the phase difference.

Phase Detection Auto Focus is usually used in brighter environments while Laser Auto Focus is used for darker environments. The Snapdragon hybrid auto focus comes in to integrate these two auto focus technologies using smart algorithms. Qualcomm explains in a video the super-fast and precise image capture offered by the Snapdragon hybrid auto focus. More details below:

Don’t be confused by all the terms. Qualcomm has just one message: Snapdragon-powered mobile devices are still the best options.
