Not everyone is keen on having a credit card, but the more digital we become, it is becoming more and more necessary to have a form of payment other than cash so you will be able to purchase digital content. Google has worked around the no credit card problem by offering prepaid vouchers so you will be able to buy anything from the Google Play ecosystem. The latest country to have the privilege of using this voucher to pay for their Google content is India.
As of yesterday, you could now walk into select stores of Vijay Sales and Spice Hotspot in several cities in India, namely Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata & Jaipur, and then tell the cashier that you’d like to purchase the Google Play prepaid vouchers. They are available in three “denominations”: INR 500, INR 1000 and INR 1500. You can pay cash or credit card or any other payment that the store allows, and then you’ll be provided with a redemption code.
Once you have the code, simply go to play.google.com/redeem to well, redeem your voucher. You will now be able to buy any of the content on Google Play, provided that said content is also available in the region. Use it to purchase apps, games, books, music, movies from either your Android smartphone or tablet. If you’re using a computer or laptop, you can still buy the content for your Android device through the web version of the Play store.
Hopefully, Google will make this prepaid voucher option available to more and more countries, especially those that have low credit card ownership levels. Not having a credit card shouldn’t be a hindrance to getting the digital content you want.
