When you create a new generation of an already impressive product, you better make sure that you’re significantly improving on it. Otherwise, it may look like you’re just fleecing the people for more money for what is basically the same product, with just a fancier name. If you were a fan of Bose’s SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker, then you’d be excited to know that the next-gen version of this portable device, called the SoundLink Mini Speaker 2, seems like a way better version of the original.
One major difference is that this new speaker has a speakerphone function so you will be able to take calls, do conference calls with colleauges or with family, just by pressing one button on top of the speaker. And once you’ve done using it as a speakerphone, then the music, which we assume was previously playing, will just pick up where it left off. You can even connect two devices that have Bluetooth at the same time to the mini speakers. And pairing those devices is not that difficult as the voice prompt will get you through the process.
Another big change in the next-gen speaker is that the “improved” rechargeable lithium-ion battery will be able to give you 10 hours of use, so that means 10 hours of music with some conversations thrown in between. It can also now charge in most USB power sources, but if you want to stick to its old charging cable, you may do so as well.
The SoundLink Mini Bluetooth Speaker 2 is now available through the Bose stores. It has two basic colors, Carbon and Pearl, but you can also buy soft covers in different colors, Deep Red, Energy Green, Navy Blue, Charcoal Black and Gray. The speaker costs around $261 (£169.95) while each of the soft covers costs around $32 (£20.95).
