When you deal with a service that require certain sensitive information about the user which are necessary to providing said service, it’s important that the privacy policies you have are both iron clad and can be understood by the “simplest” of users. Car service app Uber has just announced that they are revamping their policies, but only to make it simpler and easier to understand. They are also applying changes to make way for their new services.
These changes are the result of an external review from privacy experts. Their recommendation was an overhaul of the way the previous privacy policy was written. Even though it was extensive enough, the jargon and legalese included may overwhelm the layman and so they wouldn’t even bother reading through it. But the new version, for both riders and drivers, is almost half as long as the existing one and can now be understood by non-lawyers. It states exactly what personal information Uber asks for from you and then enumerates where that information will be used.
Also, because Uber has new products and will probably continue to bring new products, these will also be reflected in new aspects in the Privacy Policy. New promotional features would like to be able to send offers to the Uber user’s friends and family members, but only if you’ll allow the app to do so. They are quick to emphasize that everything is still under the user’s control, including giving access to your contacts.
Both riders and driving partners will be able to receive emails regarding the new Privacy Statements that will be implemented. Officially, these new statements will take effect by July 15.
