While the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have been making waves (at least marketing wise) in the market, there are still some things that Samsung may have been doing wrong. One of those is in creating “exlusive software” that haven’t really picked up and have eventually closed shop. The latest failed experiment is Club Samsung, launched almost two years ago in India, and starting July 10 this year, it will no longer exist in the digital sphere.
The app was announced as part of the launch of the Grand Galaxy 2 back in 2013 and it wanted to offer exclusive content for Indian users, like TV shows, music, etc. It promised to deliver content from more than 90 TV channels, and in 9 different Indian languages. Unfortunately, it was probably too exclusive, as usage was low and eventually, updating the content might have become too expensive or too much of a hassle, and so eventually they stopped doing that too.
So of course, it doesn’t make sense anymore to try and keep a product that does nothing for your brand. And so finally, Samsung sent out notifications to the few Samsung Club users that still stuck it out, that they are ending the service by July 10, 2015. So from now until that day, it should be enough time for users to be able to save their content, like playlists, favorites, and more importantly, those items that they bought.
Even though it was launched for India only, similar services like Samsung Hub also came out exclusively for the OEM’s users elsewhere. However, as stated, it hasn’t really hit the sweet spot for users, so probably they won’t be trying this again anytime soon, unless it’s something vastly different that will blow their minds away.
