What do you with wired chargers when you don’t need them anymore? Most of us would just think of throwing them away or giving them to people whose devices are still dependent on that. But Samsung Belgium decided to make something that would not just be of “public service” but also would get people wondering about their new flagship devices, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. So they partnered with a local “creative recycling agency” in order to create usable art displays.
When you visit the Meise Botanic Gardens in Belgium, you’ll be able to see reclining chairs, hammocks, and other “art display” pieces made from now useless wired chargers. They collaborated with HetVindingrijk and its founder Evy Puelinckx for this project.. She said that a lot of people would like to get rid of their own cables and wires at home but don’t know what to do with them. And so they set out to ask people to donate theirs and the result is they made a park look interesting and cozy at the same time.
Samsung collected over 3km of wire and each of the resulting artwork chairs is made up of more than 150 chargers. Samsung Belgium’s Mobile Marketing Manager believes that this is also an indication that wireless charging is fast gaining traction not just in the country but in other places where wireless charging is now a thing.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge is pushing wireless charging technology, and with brands like McDonalds, Starbucks, Ikea, and Lexus also now involved with getting rid of these chargers, it will not be surprising if this becomes “the next big thing” indeed.
