Slack has been around for some time, changing how team communication works. We’ve raved about the instant messaging app just last April and this time, we’ve got news it’s been updated to be a better and faster communication tool in the workplace.
The updated Slack for Android 2.0 now features a simpler tabbed navigation as the left and right drawers have been removed. These new tabs offer a quicker access to direct messages, starred items, mentions, and channels. There’s also the “Jump to…” link so you can easily go to any message, group, or channel.
So you won’t be confused and make a mistake of posting on the wrong channel, you can just select the team from the top dropdown. Notifications have been improved as well. They are now grouped by team so it’s less confusing. You will also notice a new button floating at the bottom right corner of the channels list to locate or create channels, groups, or DMs.
Search results can now be opened in a new “archive viewer” for an enhanced search functionality. The Slack developers promised the app is now faster especially when switching teams and channels and navigating around. They noted the feedback of avid Slack users who said that app was a bit slow when switching teams or channels.
Slack has also been updated with Material Design elements in mind. You’ll notice there are new transitions, animations, and icons. Full *message* _formatting_ and Android emojis are also now supported.
According to the Slackers Slack developers, this version was built from the ground up so we can say it’s a totally new app. Expect faster updates and more advanced Android features with this version.
