Just a few days ago we talked about how the Samsung Plus program page showed that the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Active was supposed to have launched alongside the new flagship and the Galaxy S6 edge last month. While there is still no official word that this variant will actually happen (although based on past experience, it will), a User Agent profile confirms that it will indeed have a QHD screen and also indicated the model number of the upcoming smartphone.
According to the User Agent profile, the phone will carry the model number SM-G89OA and it will have a 1440×2560 resolution display. The upcoming smartphone is also rumored to have a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display which brings the pixel density to 577ppi. It will be running on Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 SoC with an octa-core 2.1 GHz CPU and a Mali-T760 MP8 GPU. Just like the original Galaxy S6, it will have 3GB RAM, a 3500mAh battery and a 16MP and 5MP rear and front camera respectively.
Of course the major change from the original is that it has an IP67 rating so it means you can submerge it in 3.28 feet of water up to 30 minutes. This is the whole point of the Active series (not that you will always deliberately dunk it in water though) and since the Galaxy S6 does not have water and dust resistance, it will very well likely be announced soon.
Last month, an AT&T inventory list was seen also containing the SM-G890A model and leaked pictures have also been seen lying around. So let’s expect the announcement from Samsung anytime soon.
