So it seems as though Pocket Link got a moment or two of Steve Walker, acting Global Head of Marketing for Sony Ericsson who said that the company learned “a huge amount last year” (meaning 2010) and that “The first generation of handsets in our portfolio was about getting the capability out there.” He goes on to say what “went wrong” with Sony Ericsson this year and what they planned on doing next year. It’s all so simple!
Walker notes that they (and everyone else!) had no chance of predicting the past two years and how many people would switch to smartphones. Not only that, he notes that noone could have predicted what would be more or less important to consumers, but that they’ve “taken a big step forward for 2011.” With learning! Or maybe it’s that fabulous XPERIA Arc that we’ve been eyeing?
He notes that although last year he and they believed that hardware played “second fiddle” to software, this year (2011,) the consumer would be turning their eyes back toward hardware once again. He notes that they “didn’t anticipate the strength of feeling that consumers would have towards the Android release,” which was just silly, just silly! But then they got wise and decided to release the XPERIA Arc – this phone, which is slated for release in the next couple of months, “is just the first of many products we [they] will show through the year”
Finally he notes that if they’d not done what they did with the X10 and the X10 minis, they “wouldn’t have been able to do what we’ve done here today.” Take a peek at our Hands-On of the XPERIA Arc we got at CES 2011 too. Super awesome!
