We already reported that SEGA would be removing titles from the Play Store. We were in denial for a while but that’s how it is in the gaming and mobile industry. It’s not that these games are not “selling”. According to SEGA, some of these games and apps no longer meet their standards.
Apps were offered for download for a while after the announcement and SEGA assured gamers that games will still be playable even after the titles are removed from the listing. And that day has already happened as SEGA completely removed apps from Google Play Store.
These games are not just out of the Android market but also off the Apple App Store so don’t think it’s not just us Android gamers who would be left heartbroken by SEGA. The games are now out of both mobile platforms. The company is only saying that the apps don’t meet the standards but seriously, there is a solution to that: update the app.
We have no idea how regularly SEGA has been updating apps but if that’s the case before, then maybe this wouldn’t happen. Most SEGA games on iOS are believed to be not compatible with iOS 8 and it’s the same with Android. Compatibility problems are common but SEGA could have just worked on updates.
The games are not completely wiped out from SEGA’s library but only from the mobile platforms. It’s a sad day for fans of SEGA games but what can we do. We expected more from the Japanese video game developer but I guess they have other priorities and mobile versions and apps are not on their priority yet.
