We started out with Tic Tac Toe, and probably thought we hit the apex of the “match 3” gameplay of the puzzle game when we encountered games such as Zuma and Bejeweled. But lo and behold, them puzzle games are still here – and they have mutated. “Languinis: Match and Spell” is a puzzle game, but it is also a word game.
The developers were probably thinking, we really can’t keep people interested enough if it’s just a new “match 3” game, with all the normal boosts and power-ups. So they decided to add another element – a word puzzle game within the game, which does give the app a freshness to it. Watch the preview video below.
The cute little characters – obviously called Languinis – are being held captive by the Phoenix god. You get to help them out by matching colored gems, uncovering letters, and spelling out powerful words that will free these little dudes one by one. Easy enough, but of course the puzzles get more difficult as the levels progress.
It’s a cute little game that should keep you occupied when you’re trying to pass the time (or waste it, whichever the case). The new gameplay and the cute graphics should be enough to interest casual gamers out there. Pick up the app at the download link below, free with IAPs.
