YouTuber CaptainSparklez is pretty popular – you can say that after you’ve gained nearly 9 million subscribers over Google’s ubiquitous video streaming site. Jordan Maron – CaptainSparklez’ name IRL – focuses mainly on gaming culture with his videos. But now he’s venturing into game development with “Fortress Fury”, a tower defense game now available on Android.
TD games are dime a dozen on the Play Store, so we home CaptainSparklez brought his “A game” with this new app. Set in a fantasy land called Forterra, the main idea of the game is to summon soldiers and build fortresses with arcane magic and alchemy to defend your home from attackers. You couple this idea with real-time online multiplayer matches, and you actually have a quite novel and solid foundation for a game.
In the game your opponents will be other players – either friends you’ve invited to the game, or random players in globally ranked matches. There are thousands of combinations of weapons and building materials to choose from. Loot can be collected to open up new materials. There are also Energy Crystals to be used to “boost your potential.” These powerups can be earned in-game, or the tried and tested IAP way – which means you buy them with real money.
There was a legal issue before the game’s launch, when Maron initially named the game “Fortress Fallout”. Bethesda took notice, saying that this infringed on their copyright on the word “Fallout” – which is, of course, the title of their famed RPG series. Rather than appeal the ruling, Maron has sinced renamed the game to Fortress Fury. Pick up the game via the Google Play Store at the download link below.

Clearly not a tower defence game.
