It’s less than a week until one of the most critically-acclaimed dramas on network television finally comes to an end after seven seasons on air, and to commemorate it, Lionsgate and Google Play have teamed up to bring you the ultimate Mad Men digital retrospective. It contains a lot of never-before seen materials, as well as the ultimate multi-media stuff to prepare you for the series finale airing this Sunday on AMC.
Even if you’re not prepared to bid Don Draper and his advertising cohorts goodbye (a true fan is never prepared for this sort of thing), you would still want to immerse yourself in this virtual world filled with pictures, videos, sketches, commentaries, interviews, etc. Think of it as an art exhibit, but digital and interactive. It even has a free stream of the first ever episode of the series, where we met the smooth-talking Don and fell in love with characters like Roger, Peggy, Joan, Pete, as they maneuvered their way around the sexual and real-life politics of advertising in the 60s.
There are over 300 pieces of content that will be released digitally for the first time, including sketched artwork of sixties fashion, on-set and behind the scene photos, in-browser commentary, etc. There is also an historical time line of the show and the characters’ lives, interviews with cast members as they remember their favorite scenes and storylines over the years. It’s a veritable collection of all things that you’d want to know (and even things you didn’t think you’d want to know) about the show as it bids farewell.
This is the first time that Google Play has gone this in-depth for a show, and based on the URL, madmen.withgoogle.com, there will probably be more similar projects in the future. Unfortunately, the site seems to be regionally locked, so if you live outside the countries where it’s available, you better find ways so you can view it.
