Apple was the first to introduce the iPhone. It paved the way for smartphones and soon Google went on to launch the Android mobile OS. Since then, the two mobile platforms are going head to head, trying to beat each other. Depending on who you’re asking or what you’re looking at, the iOS and Android beat each other in different categories and in different regions.
Android fans would say Android is still the best. Of course, Android Community would agree to that but it’s not perfect. In some countries in Europe, Google’s mobile platform is still king with a 68.4% share of the market but iOS saw a small increase to 20.3%.
According to Kantar Worldpanel’s ComTech, iOS is becoming more popular in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and Great Britain. The number may be far from Android’s (about a third) but Google’s mobile platform share fell down by 3.1% points. Surprisingly, Windows Phone went up by 1.8 points, same as Apple’s iOS. These numbers are only for the first quarter of 2015 being compared to last year’s numbers, same period.
In China, iOS is also quickly spreading. From 17.9% share last year, it’s now at 26.1%. We can attribute this success to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Android share last quarter was 72% versus the 80% share in Q1 2014.
So Apple is grabbing some significant points from Android? Looks like Android is falling off a bit while the Cupertino company’s mobile OS numbers are going up. Some Apple iOS share fell in Japan and France by a few points only. In France, however, Windows Phone grew 5.8% while Android and iOS fell some points.

It was a bit light, how about a comparison between functionality of a iOS8.2 device and a high end Lolipop device? I use both and it’s embarrassing how far Apple have fallen behind.
Well, iPhone 6 was a major change, so yeah, I would expect sales to climb (4 to 5 was not much of an upgrade really). In fact, with the 6, the only redeeming factor now is that you have a choice of what size you want (small form factor, large form factor or larger form factor).
Unless Apple does something for the next iteration, I expect sales to either stay where they are or fall and the gap between Android and iOS increases once again.
