After a long wait, updates are finally moving with the Nexus 9 tablet – that is, Google’s current flagship tablet. Most of the top end Nexus products are already on Android 5.1.1, so it’s good news for Nexus 9 users to see the Android 5.0.2 update – even if this is a pretty small one – start rolling in.
The Android 5.0.2 update is all of 23.3MB, pretty small for an update, as 5.0.2 for the Nexus 9 just deals with stability issues, performance tweaks, and the odd bug here and there. Still, it’s recommended that if you’re un-rooted and still on stock software, to get the update via a stable WiFi connection.
If you’re rooted and on stock Android, you may have to jump through a few hoops – the biggest of which is to flash the factory image of the new update. Fortunately, Google has made available the 5.0.2 factory images (build number LRX22L) via its download page, so check out the source link below the article for that one.
There are rumors that Google is having some issues with NVIDIA and the 5.1.1 update, and you will remember that the Nexus 9 is on an NVIDIA Tegra K1 chipset. Some pundits think this is why even the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet is still on 5.0.2. There is no official word on that, so we wait. Meanwhile, do get the update for your Nexus 9 when you can.
