The iFixit team has put LG’s top-of-the-line Android Wear smartwatch – the LG Watch Urbane – squarely in its sights for a teardown treatment. Smartwatches are generally more prone to issues and breaks than smartphones, given the watches’ proximity to bodily movement. The teardown would most likely show if the LG Watch Urbane would at least be easy to repair, if needed.

The answer from iFixit? Yes, the LG Watch Urbane is pretty easy to tear apart, if your purpose is to repair. LG has proven that it knows how to fit square or multi-sided elements in a round case. Getting into the smartwatch needs heating and prying, but pretty easy on the whole. You will need to replace the adhesive though, when you put it all back together to keep the IP67 water resistance rating.

You’ll be pleased to know that the mainboard is held together with Philips screws and is quite easy to get at. That also applies for the battery, which might need replacement at some point in time. The iffy part, is when you would need a screen replacement – let’s hope you won’t ever need to have that. LG has put a lot of adhesive layers on the display element, and prying it off might lead to some parts being destroyed.
