While the Android 5.0 Lollipop may have rolled out for Sony devices like the Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra, the original Xperia Z owners seem to still be waiting in vain. But if we are to believe a tweet from the OEM, albeit it’s from their office in the Philippines, it looks like the major update will finally arrive some time next week.
The rollout for some of the Xperia Z series devices started in mid-April, after a seemingly long wait and with users getting a bit impatient since the flagship devices were already Lollipop-ized. During this time, Sony assured owners of the original Xperia Z series, which includes the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z, that they were already next in line, although no specific date was given. But now, a user from the Philippines tweeted their local Sony office, asking when will the Lollipop arrive. They responded, asking him to disregard their previous tweet, and confirming that the update will start rolling out by next week.
Meanwhile, XDA user gbil, who apparently can be relied upon when it comes to Xperia firmware updates, says that the “actual release date is closer to end of NEXT week”, referring to this week actually.
Should you be one of those interested parties in this developing story, be sure to follow Sony’s blog and Twitter as they usually release the official updates here as to when specific devices will be upgraded to Android 5.0.2.
