If you live in an area where high vehicular traffic during rush hour is a common occurrence, then you already know to adjust your leaving time to it. But what of those unexpected moments when there’s a huge pile up on the highway or when a road construction is causing unusual traffic in your area? While the Waze app does a good job of sometimes letting you know of things like that, they thought of another more organized way to do it: Waze Unusual Traffic.
The program uses historical data to compare if the traffic jams are just part of the daily routine in an area or if it is indeed an unusual situation. It is your go-to source to find out if there is heavy traffic and if you should adjust your ETA and ETD because of this. Waze has opened 50 Twitter accounts, encompassing the major cities in the US and around the world, including Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, San Antonio, Portland, Orlando, etc. Each of these accounts tweet in their own native language of course.
You can choose to follow which account is relevant to you. They will inform you the location of the traffic, and if information is available, the cause as well. It will also tweet out the extra time that has been added because of the traffic. If Waze users have sent in pictures of real-time road reports, they will also include it. Lastly, it will include a link with the best route to take to avoid traffic.
Waze is opening up the use of their Twitter feed to broadcasters and news accounts, and their only request is that Waze be mentioned as the source. You can see a list of the 50 Unusual Traffic Twitter accounts here.
