So how many mid-tier phones do you know out there with dual-channel 4GB RAM? “Not a lot” is the answer you’ll get, most probably. In truth, the ASUS ZenFone 2 was indeed the first one out there to utilize this much RAM. Then that was followed by Xiaomi’s Mi Note Pro phablet. But those two are not in the same category. Now Lenovo is coming out with the K80, yes, with 4GB of RAM and a lot closer to where the ZenFone 2 is, market-wise.
The Lenovo K80, as soon as anyone give the specs a once-over, they will realize that it was born to compete with ASUS’s mid-tier champion. The Lenovo K80 has a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display, same as the ZenFone 2. It even uses the same brand of processor – the K80 will have a 1.8Ghz quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom processor, slightly slower than the 2.3Ghz in the ASUS phone, but definitely not by much.
The Lenovo K80 will offer something better, and at this point it is the gargantuan 4,000mAh battery, probably guaranteed to last you 2 days on a charge. The K80 will also have LTE connectivity, and the same 64GB internal storage as the top-of-the-line ZenFone 2. The phone is not so slim at 8.5mm, and while that itself is not at all ungainly fat, it’s probably because of the big battery, which is a decent trade-off.
Lenovo is planning to leverage on the pricing – the top model K80 will be sold in China at around USD$290, around 20 dollars less than the top dog ZenFone 2. There will also be a 2GB variant of the K80 which will sell for around USD$240.
