You would expect that smartwatches will be sold where smartphones are usually sold, since they are more of a gadget rather than an actual watch (although they do tell time). But Asus sees it diferently, at least when it comes to their brand new wearable, the VivoWatch. Instead of heading to your nearest gadget stores, you might want to step in to stores where they sell old-school watches as this is where you’ll find the newest smartwatch from Asus.
But where it will be sold is not the only thing unique about this smartwatch. It’s not running on Android Wear but instead it has its own operating system. It can be paired with iOS devices and selected Android smartphones as well, including;
* ASUS smartphones from the past two years
* Samsung Galaxy Note S4, S5 and Note 3, Galaxy Grand 2
* Huwaei Honor 6
* HTC One (M7)
* LG Optimus G Pro, LG G3
* Sony Xperia V, SP, Z3C, Z1
* Xiaomi Redmi Note
With its 128 x 128 pixel display with Corning Glass 3, 10 day battery life, a 3-axis accelerometer, UV sensor, and optical heart-rate sensor, this smartwatch is looking pretty good, if fitness tracking are the things you would majorly need for your device. Just like other wearables, you can pair it up with a smartphone using Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. You will also be using the ASUS HiVivo app to set-up everything, including notification, features, watchfaces, etc.
The VivoWatch will be available in the British market for £119.99 VAT inclusive, so that’s around $180. However, there is no news yet if it will even hit the US market. But this May, it will be available at Goldsmith stores, Watches of Switzerland, and Watchshop.com in the UK. Let’s see if this strategy of Asus will actually work.
