Late last week Sony told us that they will finally be bringing the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update to several Xperia Z devices, although they did not give a specific date (probably to avoid complaints if it didn’t pan out). But today, they are much more confident as they announced that the rollout for the update to the Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra will start today and will reach worldwide markets eventually.

Some Android fans with non-flagship devices have been getting a bit impatient with the (very) gradual rollout of Lollipop, but Sony seems to be stepping up its game. After this batch of updates have finished, then they will begin updating the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3, both with dual sims, starting next week. Again, there is no specific date, but given that they have kept to their word from last week, maybe we can expect around the same time too for the next batch.

The original Xperia Z series, which includes the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z are next in line, although the time table given is “in a few weeks time” so we don’t know when that will be exactly. At least, they are still looking out for older devices, as opposed to just updating the newer and higher-end ones.

If you’re an owner of any of these devices, you should follow Sony’s blog and their Twitter as well in order to be updated as when to expect your smartphone or tablet to be upgraded to Android 5.0.2. Then you’ll be able to enjoy the Material Design, locked-screen notifications and other goodies from Lollipop.
